  • Geography: Located in western South America, Peru is the third-largest country in South America and is approximately three times the size of California. It is bordered on the north by Ecuador and Colombia, on the east by Brazil, on the southeast by Bolivia, on the south by Chile and on the west by the Pacific Ocean. The Andes mountains run parallel to the Pacific Ocean, dividing the country into three geographic regions. The costa (coast), to the west, is a narrow plain, mostly dry except for valleys created by seasonal rivers. The sierra (highlands) is the region of the Andes and the third region is the selva (jungle), a flat expanse of land covered by the Amazon rainforest.
